Donald E. Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont, IL Builds Impressive New Entryway, Extra SF

Aria Group Architects recently completed the final phase of the building addition they designed for Rosemont’s Donald E. Stephens Convention Center.

The project is ideally situated in the midst of world class hotels, restaurants and theater venues and is now the 11th largest meeting, convention and trade show facility in the country.

The design objective was to provide additional conference center space by in-filling a 2nd floor structure over what was an open entry drive. The project created 28,000 SF of additional conference space and an exciting new porte cochere entry drive.

The façade of the new structure was designed to reflect the vocabulary of the existing structure while providing a clear entry statement. The entry drive includes color changing fountains and ceiling coves that are synchronized and programmed to provide kinetic LED color changes throughout the day and various color schemes for holidays and special convention center events.

The LED system was provided by Color Kinetics and installed by the project electrical contractor Gurtz Electric.  Schuler and Shook lighting consultants provided valuable guidance to Aria Group in the lighting design and the general contractor, Degan and Rosato, applied their many years of construction expertise in pulling the whole project together.

Other consultants that contributed their talents include TGRWA structural engineers and Christopher B. Burke Engineering.  All the custom lighting fixtures in the project were constructed by New Metal Crafts.

As it stands completed, the addition brings the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center up to 845,000 SF of exhibit space and an additional 92,000 SF of conference center space.
