Protein Bar – O’Hare

This location marks the beginning of Protein Bar’s rollout in airports across the country

Aria had the opportunity to work with Protein Bar + Kitchen again on their location at O’Hare International Airport in Chicago. The “fast fuel” brand has started a rollout of airport locations across the country. Tasked with adapting their back of house functions into a 724 square-foot space, the design team was able to work with the team at Protein Bar to accommodate all of their needs while delivering an eye catching design immediately adjacent to security. Given this challenge, we made use of the space available with intricate tile and millwork features, giving the brand’s signature orange a chance to pop from every angle.

In such a regulated space as an airport, it was critical this design stood out from the surrounding shops and departure gates. We aimed to make a lasting impression on guests and make the most of a small footprint. To keep a sense of movement and interest in the durable materials required by the airport, we opted for textured finishes and dynamic shapes to draw the eye of even the most exhausted traveler.
The design greets travelers with bold color and geometric shapes as they enter the terminal from security. Millwork shifts between bold brand colors to neutral woods as guests walk past, providing a dynamic experience while maintaining the strong wood front as required by the airport.
Every inch of the small kitchen space was utilized to enhance the food-service operations and guest experience. This project offered a challenge in efficiency and an opportunity to pack high-level design and functionality into a small space.
